Today, I'm peeling back the curtains and inviting you into the whimsical, tear-jerking world of a mum with four adult children. Now, one might think the words 'adult' and 'children' stitched together would grant this mum a one-way ticket to a worry-free paradise. Spoiler alert: they don’t.


Meet my brood. Four spectacular souls; three boys who have mastered the art of giving their mum heart palpitations, and one girl, the cherry on top, who’s equally adept at turning my grey hairs greyer. Bless them.

My firstborn thinks he's Superman. "Mum, I’ve got this!" is his mantra. Yet, every time he’s up for a promotion or facing life’s curveballs, who do you think is pacing the floor at 2 am? Yours truly.


Second in Line: The Wanderer

Then there’s my second son, the world wanderer. He’s got a heart as vast as the oceans he’s crossed and a spirit as free as the wind. Every Instagram update of his latest adventure is a moment of simultaneous pride and palpitation for me. Yes, my heart does the cha-cha whilst my mind imagines every possible scenario where mum needs to swoop in and save the day!


The Princess of the Pack

Ah, my only daughter. A mix of warrior princess and elegant queen. Each new relationship, career move, or life change, and I’m there, a silent shadow of support and, yes, worry. For who could ever be worthy of my girl, the bearer of my silent hopes and loud prayers?


The Baby: Forever My Little One

The youngest, ah! Adulthood can take a number and wait. In my eyes, he’s still the toddler with cherubic cheeks and eyes wide with wonder. Every triumph, every challenge, there I am, a mum caught between the urge to cuddle and the need to step back.


So why, with a tribe of fully-grown, wonderfully independent adults, do I worry, you ask? Because motherhood, my dear friends, is a dance that knows no final bow. It’s an endless ballet, a mix of graceful pirouettes and clumsy, comedic stumbles.


I've raised CEOs and wanderers, queens, and eternal toddlers. Yet, with every call that starts with “Mum, guess what!”, my heart does a somersault, and I’m back to the sleep-deprived nights and the first-day-of-school jitters.


I’ve earned every grey hair, worn every wrinkle with pride, and behind each, there’s a tale of laughter, tears, triumphs, and trials. Because, let’s face it, once a mum, always a mum.


Every worry is a silent prayer, every sleepless night, a sonnet of unyielding love. Because these adult children of mine? They’re the pulsating rhythms of my heartbeat, the echoing melodies of a love song that knows no end.
